and the pastor. I know, I know, every pastor is supposed to have all the spiritual gifts as laid out by Paul in Romans 12 and 1st Corinthians 12. Especially the two most important gifts of Omnipresence and Omniscience because Hey! who doesn't have that? All kidding aside, I have noticed after 16 years of ministry that churches do expect their pastors to do and know everything. It is a very real and unhealthy expectation that must stop if our churches are going to move forward in real ministry. The classic line "That's what we pay you for" makes me want to hit that person with a KJV family bible. You know, the 36 pounder sitting on the coffee table that is there for show only.
Wake up church. It is not biblical for the pastor to do everything in the church. We are not gifted to do everything in the church. Until we realize this we are going to keep failing as the church.
I saw this tweet awhile back and put it into my favorites list. I've heard many a Christian say "But Scott you don't understand... I can't stop hanging out with that person or I can't give this up..." Yeah. You get the idea. Some bridges are meant to be burned. What bridges need to go up in smoke in your life today?
But I really hate to write. So basically this section will be a place to come and share scripture, thoughts on life and so on and so forth. In other words don't expect a book. If you want that go to LifeWay, well be careful because they sell some books that are heresy. But I will share The Word and hopefully encourage or inspire someone. Using our churches website as a platform to literally reach the world.
I've been preaching a series the past 5 weeks on "The Righteous Life". I have 3 more weeks to go. The "tag line" to the series is this: "We don't live this way to be saved, we live this way because we are saved". This weeks message is "The Call to Sanctification" from 1st Thessalonians 4:1-12.
I would provide audio, but hey, it's just a one man show. That's life in a small country church. To all my fellow laborer's out there in the trenches:
"Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don't give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith." Galatians 6:9-10 CSB
