The Humility and Meekness of Christ, by: A Church Member
We find in Christ Infinite Highness and matchless humility! Christ as he is
The Son of God is infinitely great and high above all creation! He is higher than the Kings of the earth for he is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! His Majesty is infinitely Glorious! And yet, His person is so meek that no man is found to be as lowly and as humble as Christ
His Humility is such that He takes careful notice and concern for those around Him who have the least and the barest necessities of life! And we find in Christ that, He humbles Himself before all men and even angels, even to humble himself to look upon the things that are done in heaven!
Christ who is our Lord of all creation came as a servant to serve mankind even those who are of the lowest rank and degree and such as those who are commonly despised by their fellow mankind! Yet Christ does not despise them!!
Even those with diseases and infirmaries such as the leper, or the blind, the crippled, or the worst of criminals! We find Christ displaying a gracious heart for the beggars and the people of the most despised nations of men, and although Christ is highly exalted by God His Father, Christ is also found to be so condescending that, He gives his time and attention to the little children and graciously welcomes them into his arms!
Christ is humble before the most unworthy, sinful creatures of mankind even those who have the most unrepentant wicked hearts with no right to ask anything of God and who being the worst of wrenches have offended God’s Holiness and character by living openly and defiantly toward HIM in great sin, who believe they are a law unto themselves and in their arrogance and blindness have no regard for God or mankind!
Yet in Christ, we find he is gracious to all! His lowly servant heart is such that He who is God in the flesh stoops to wash the feet of wretched sinners even to those who have a loathsome self-serving opinion of themselves and show great disrespect and hatred for others whom they consider to be beneath them and worthless to all of mankind!
In Christ, we find infinite Justice and Grace Come together in His humanity as the Son of Man and the Son of God! As Christ is a Divine Person he is infinitely Holy and Just, hating all Sin!
His Justice He may hold back for a season yet He will surely bring upon the unrepentant and self-righteous of this World, deserved punishment upon their hardened rebellious hearts!
Although the lowly Son of God is the Supreme and the mighty Judge of all the world of mankind, He cannot and will not by any means clear the guilty, and yet Christ is infinitely gracious and merciful, even though His justice with respect to sin is so very strict in all things that violate God’s Holy commands!
The Righteous Son of Man who was sent to us by GOD Himself did not come as the God of thunder and WRATH BUT came as the lowly Shepherd who left the glorious heights of heaven to live among men to seek and to save his lost sheep! We find in Christ the lowly Lamb of God, the great flowing fountain of His grace sufficient for every sinner, even such amazing grace as shown toward those who beat Him without mercy, tore his back with whips of sharp bones , brutally battering his Holy Righteous Face, plucking out his beard, shoving a wicked wreath, made of long razor sharp thorns, violently into his skull, cursing, spitting on him with wicked hatred , calling The Son of God a blasphemer, a sinner, a wine glutton, worker of cruelty making a mockery of Him while beating him without Mercy, openly despising Him without remorse, Yet Christ was a Lamb submitting Himself to all those who railed upon Him and pounded his his body without mercy!
We find in the lowly Lamb of God no greater benefit or blessing that sinners can receive than the Holy shed blood of Christ, poured out for the remission of the great uncountable sins of mankind! Christ suffered extreme cruelty and hatred without a cause as no man has ever suffered in this world of sin and deep, unimaginable misery to save sinners from the coming wrath of His Father in Heaven!
Yet The Lamb of God is the one and only remedy for the blotting out of the sins of mankind, and In His person we see marvelous glory and matchless humility displayed in his humanity!
His humility is shown from His lowly birth, and His willing submission to his brutal death at Calvary at the hands of wicked men who hated Him without a cause!
In His humbleness he made himself of no reputation and was so meek and mild that he willingly became the lowest of servants on earth as the most humble and righteous man that ever walked upon the earth!
His humility was so lowly that he was looked upon as the least desirable of all mankind who found no beauty in Him that anyone should desire Him! Christ as the Son of Man left heaven under the sovereign desire and Holy Command of God to come to earth to take upon himself the humanity of man to be born, live, serve, glorify and die for sinful man! In the birth of Christ we find he laid nine months in the womb of Mary his mother a poor sinful virgin who brought forth to mankind the sinless holy son of God who took upon Himself the body and soul of mankind! His deep humility was seen in His lowly conception and birth in a stable, Which He shared with farm animals! Even at his BIRTH we find his very first bed as an infant was a lowly stable manger commonly described as a wooden trough, a structure used to hold food for lowly animals in a stall such as for goats and sheep with which the stable abounded in the multitude of common flies, lice, and the ever present stench of animal waste!
The Jews disgraced Mary the mother of Christ and her family because of their extreme poverty! And as a family Christ lived with his mother Mary, brothers and sisters in a lowly and despicable town called Nazareth, where even the families that lived there made fun of the town’s lowly lifestyle with the common humiliating saying……
“Can any good thing thing come out of Nazareth?”
The body, soul, mind and heart of Christ was poured out and given up to hatred, pain, rejection, sorrow, grief, anger, hunger, thirst, mental anguish, of body and soul, extreme weariness, deep continuing sorrows, a broken heart and in such a state of body and mind was he born into for which he c suffered under great humiliation, and mockery to take upon Himself our lowly human sinful nature and yet Christ was sinless!
As an infant Christ endured the painful ritual of circumcision when He was eight days old! He grew normally in his body as children do and his reasoning ability developed gradually and naturally as it does with all humanity! The Son of God increased in wisdom as well as in strength and stature and in body and mind! Christ lived humbly with his parents in subjection to them as shown by his obedience to Joseph and Mary in his early years!
We see also that Christ submitted himself to his parents as the first born son of his family and to labor for them by humbling Himself as a lowly, poor carpenter, laboring hard in daily manual labor to receive his bread through the sweat of his brow for himself and his family!
Though He was The Son of God in the Flesh, He meekly and willingly humbled himself Before God His Father to the extreme trials of temptations from Satan in the wildernesses where He was most severely afflicted, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually through the continuous unrelenting assault and buffeting of Satan that He might be severely tried and tested forty days and nights!
His disciples after the last supper claimed not to know him and ran away! His disciple Judas sold him out for 30 pieces of silver! Christ humility is seen in the many reproaches, indignities, and persecutions he constantly endured from men of immoral and evil character” as well as the self-righteous who were always the first to declare Him a sinner and that He had a Devil!
And yet in all of his ways He remained a man of quite humility considering the welfare of others first and bringing about miracles of healing upon uncounted numbers of mankind!
In His sadness as a man of deep sorrows, “He said, the foxes have their holes and the birds have their nests…yet the son of man has no place to lay his head” His poverty was determined through the ancient prophecies that HE would be born humble of birth and would be rejected by many and despised by the multitudes who sought to kill him and rejected him as a blasphemer and a worker of magic and deceit! As a man of extreme poverty, Christ humbly submitted himself to be held up in the utmost contempt and distain by men, and was considered to be the least worthy of all men and was known to have the reputation of being a mad man that had a devil! My Dear friends, we all know the truth of who Christ is and why He came, So we come to that defining moment of humble soul searching which is WILL YOU turn your back and your heart away from the greatest, most glorious love displayed for the good of mankind that has ever been or shall be! Will you humble yourself confessing your need for the glorious salvation that awaits the hearts of those who have finally in great despair come to the end of themselves and now call upon our humble Savior as their Lord and Master who is able to change your heart and your life forever through the gracious love of Christ our Savior …..?
The Son of Man?
